Getting ready for the roof

The roof joists are up now, with the positions prepared for the skylights. It's a bit of a shock to find out how much the skylights will cost - we have decided to have just 3 of the 7 opening electronically, we will have to climb a step ladder if we want to open the others!

Big RSJ

Stuart, Andy and myself carried a big heavy lump of steel and put it in place to support our roof today. looking less like a castle and more like a house now!

September Progress

Stuart has been dividing his time between working on the blockwork, which is almost finished and working on the drains,(with the help of Andy who has been digging the trench the last 2 or 3 Thursdays). We need to get the drains done so we will be able to stand up scaffolding next to the house. Anyway, the building inspector called yesterday and he was happy with them so Andy can start filling in the trenches tomorrow,

So at the moment the house looks a real mess at the front! However at the back the extension continues to grow. I helped Stuart and Andy lift a large lintel in place for the South facing window. There is an even heavier one to lift tomorrow - the one that supports the roof!

At the weekend our plasterers  Tony & Darren returned - I had asked them not to come last weekend because my time was getting too divided and I could not get enough plasterboard walls up ready for them - anyway I finished creating a new hallway that will lead to the extension (it had to be separated from the old lounge) and now that is finished I have asked them to leave it for a couple of weeks to give me a chance to catch up on a few other jobs.

(On the photo above the doorway will lead to the kitchen and the area to the right will have cupboards built in for storage)

Leaving the Summer behind us

While Stuart was on holiday I've been busy with a number of things - putting up plasterboard up the side of the stairs trying to get ahead of the plasterers who come at the weekends.  I've knocked a hole through a wall which will be the doorway into the lounge and built a stud wall which will separate the lounge from the office

I've cleared the 2nd bedroom and cleaned out all the mess under the floorboards and then fixed battens which will support the underfloor heating, and today I put a sealer coat of paint on the walls, (tomorrow I will have to move all the stuff in the main bedroom back in - spend so much time shifting stuff from one place to another!)

Meanwhile it's good to have Stuart back laying blocks on the extension. Nearly at a height for leaving spaces for the 2 windows. We should have bought the lintels when he was away. Forgot about it. Now we may have to pay extra to get them delivered in time!
